Few places capture the eccentric spirit of Captiva quite like The Bubble Room. Opened in 1979, the landmark restaurant was the creation of artist, baker and entrepreneur Katie Gardenia, whose imagination helped transform a small island restaurant into a colorful world of vintage toys, antiques, holiday decorations and nostalgia. Even its name traces back to the bubble lights on her grandmother’s Christmas tree.
Rendered as a watercolor artwork derived from photography, this piece celebrates both a beloved Captiva landmark and the wonderfully unconventional vision of the woman who helped create it.
